Portfolio P.3

Also: I may replace the national healthcare ad campaign with one for Biosphere2 (also here), but I'm wary of having too many technology/science type projects. I mean, that may be an area I'd love to work in (helloooooo, ThinkGeek, you know you want to hire me before I even graduate, thanks!), but I think I need to show variety in my design aesthetics ability.
Thoughts?

And I really need to stop coding. But it's so nice to get back into it!

Portfolio P.1

So if anyone isn't aware by now (weirdos), I am in the midst of creating/compiling a portfolio for applying to the graphic design BFA.
I have to have 6-8 projects, which so far are:

-The Alchemy Index by Thrice. This is my series project, because we are supposed to do a series project for whatever reason we're supposed to do anything, I don't know. It consists of four volumes (CDs): I. Fire, II. Water, III. Air, IV. Earth. This is a pretty easy project so far because it's already so themed. I love the original design for it, but I've gone way crazier and more detailed in my own designs.
Status: design complete, except Gloria suggests I make a poster if I have time, and you know what, okay, sure, that sounds fun.

-A tampon line that comes with chocolate! I haven't decided if I should create my own brand or choose an existing brand for this, but that's sort of irrelevant. Also, I'm sure there are health laws or something that you have to get a license for or something that's prevented companies from already doing this - that, or they are really, really, REALLY missing an opportunity here. Anyway, I can do whatever I want; I'm a designer, I don't need to be practical! That's for the corporate types!
I've designed this to be much less girly than feminine hygiene products tend to be. Even Kotex's new line, despite its black background, is very girly. Just because we're girls doesn't mean we want flowers and pinks and swirls. Not that I don't like those.
Status: design complete, but I'm not happy.

-A line of Harry Potter products. I've limited myself (so far) to the drinks - butterbeer, pumpkin juice, firewhiskey, gillywater, nettle wine, and oak-matured mead. I'm trying to go more serious and realistic with these instead of the fun, child-friendly style that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter went with, but still whimsical (er, magical). If I have time, I might expand into the candy line.
Status: butterbeer, pumpkin juice, and firewhiskey designs complete.

-ThinkGeek. This is the project I'm currently working on. I did brand identity for ThinkGeek in one of my classes, and I'm trying to refine it. At this exact moment (well, I guess before I started writing this entry) I am working on the website. The plan is to have a logo, business stationery, full website, and some product designs.
Status: uh, what, too much involved to even try to figure out what's done.

-Poetry book. This is a personal project. The problem I am having with this project is deciding if I should limit it to a theme; that is, limit the poems I choose to a particular theme. I probably should. I probably will. BUT WHICH? I have to choose from, I don't know... technology, mythology, literature referencing, water, self-potraity-y, medical.... I could probably make this into another series and do a bunch of volumes.
Status: 0%, but I have grand plans.

-Pro-national healthcare ad. Another project I did in one of my classes. I really like what I have for this, but I'm sure I can make it better. Somehow. I'm saving this one to work on last because it's so close to done. Also, can I please just reiterate how much I DO NOT want to go into advertising!?
Status: 90% done?

Annnnd that's what I've got. I know I should also do something that's more conservative and minimal, but I don't know what, yet. Ah well, I'll think of something.
None of these have yet been constructed, except the ThinkGeek website, I guess. It isn't finished, though.
It probably doesn't sound like it, but I'm moving pretty fast on these, and I'm pretty pleased at what's completed so far. I will probably have to abandon coding the site for a while, though, because coding it properly takes forever and I'd like to have all my designs done.

Or at least, it was supposed to be, but that was before FB decided to be all stupid with its uploading stupidness.

ThinkGeek Logo

Just realized I haven't updated this since last semester. So here's a quick update of a not-quite-finished project (logo design and eventually stationery design for the company ThinkGeek).

This isn't the finished logo yet. I'm working on it right now! Woo! Real-time post.
The concept is a reflection of the words 'think' and 'geek;' the logo is a digital thought bubble with circuitry that's supposed to also evoke a brain (the trailing thought bubbles are supposed to mimic the brain stem), with a scifi, mad scientist antenna-type thing attached. All of these are supposed to bring in several of the geeky aspects of ThinkGeek (as well as, you know, brain+thought bubble=think).
Oh concept!

Come Wednesday (hopefully before), I will have a finished logo, a finished logo with type, a business card, a letterhead/letter, and an envelope.
